Which operating system do you think is the best for you? Android? Symbian? iPhone OS?
How about Windows XP on your mobile? If ITG (In Technology Group) is to be believed, they have developed a phone which runs Windows XP on it. Weighing a whooping 400g, the xpPhone (does the name need an explanation?) features up to 1GB RAM, 120 GB HDD and an AMD Super Mobile CPU.

The xpPhone also features a full QWERTY keypad, a touch-pad, and a number pad. Too many keys? Well, at least it will be easy to use.
The xpPhone is already available through pre-order. However, ITG hasn’t revealed the price tag yet. The phone can be pre-ordered through ITG’s official website, via AT&T, Orange and Vodafone.
But what can we expect from such a phone? To begin with, we don’t even know how fast the processor in xpPhone is. Then there is the size issue. It isn’t really a phone. It is somewhere between a phone and a tablet. And with all that weight, it is unlikely that you will be comfortable using it for very long.
The fully featured keyboard, with a touch pad added for extra measure, might seem to be a pretty good idea. But would it really be all that easy to use? It will either be very cramped or very big. In either case, it is sure to be uncomfortable.
Then there is the pricing issue. ITG hasn’t revealed xpPhone’s price yet, even though pre-ordering has been opened. Maybe they want to see the response before they decide n a price? No one is sure. But in all likelihood, the price will definitely be above $1000. Too expensive for a phone.
But maybe I am just too cynical. Maybe the xpPhone will feature a fast processor, maybe it will be comfortable to use. Heck, maybe it will even be cheap. What if it is all those things?
In that case, the rest of the mobile OS developers have a real challenge on their hands. So far, they were trying to improve mobile phone operating systems to a point where the difference between the features of a desktop OS and a phone OS is blurred. Suddenly, along comes ITG with its revolutionary xpPhone which takes a desktop OS and puts it in a phone, jumping ahead of all competitors in just one huge leap.
For businessmen, it means they will be able to work on presentations on their phone. Since the OS is XP, it will be able to run all applications including MS Office.
For gamers, of course, this is the probably the best thing to have happened since PSP. However, the cramped keyboard might not make gaming too much fun. Still, carrying around a device with a 1 GB RAM, a fast processor and a huge screen is enough to make any gamer proud.
At the moment, the only thing to do is wait and watch, and see what this storm develops into. Will the xpPhone be a reality? Soon enough? Or is this just one of those rumours that start floating around every few weeks?

If this becomes a reality then fulfilling the worldwide demands will be challenging…….
